ELNA’S MATERNITY HOSPITAL Cradle of exile 1939-144

EXHIBITION:
ELNA’S MATERNITY HOSPITAL Cradle of exile 1939-144

When Barcelona, and with it Catalonia, fell into the hands of Franco’s army, thousands of Catalan men and women crossed the Pyrenees into exile. The photographs brought together by the Direcciò General de la Memòria Democràtica de la Generalitat de Catalunya under the title of La maternidad de Elna are a testimony to a tale of solidarity that goes way beyond borders, that of a Swiss schoolteacher who created a maternity hospital to attend to the needs of the precarious refugee camps.

The exhibition includes screening of the documentary El legado de la maternidad de Elna, various round tables and launching of the book: El setè camió: el tresor perdut de la República.
