TO DIE IN JERUSALEM

TO DIE IN JERUSALEM (2007)

Despite five years having passed since young 17 year old Rachel Levy was killed by a Palestinian suicide terrorist, her mother Avigail hasn’t had a moment’s peace since. Rachel was murdered by Ayat al-Akhras, also aged 17, a student from a refugee camp. Curiously, the two girls had a lot in common. The impact of their deaths is still as strong today as it was then. To Die in Jerusalem uses the experiences of the two families and Avigail’s search for answers to explore the Palestine-Israel conflict, the mutual pain despite the cultural distance and different perceptions of death, and finally the hope that peace will be found one day. The most emotional moment of the film is the meeting between the mothers of the two dead girls.
