The power of religion

History has seen how religion and the interpretation of its scriptures or holy sites have given rise to a myriad of controversies. Despite the fact that the conflicts and wars often conceal other aspects like economic, political, ideological or territorial interests, religion is repeatedly used to bring people into confrontation for the glory of their gods or prophets and divine, eternal reward.

Religion and religious structures continue to exercise great influence in secular countries; a power augmented in confessional states, where religious authorities often play a determinant role in far-off areas isolated from state decision-making centres.

Given the weight of religion and subterfuge, as demonstrated by this film, a movie set can earn the consideration of sacred holy symbol to the extent that the owner of the land, despite endangering his family’s means of support, can do nothing to recover his property.
