Sons of the Clouds, the Last Colony examines the current political turmoil in Northern Africa and the responsibility of Western powers (particularly the US and France) due to their applying of Realpolitik (policies driven by practical and economic interests rather than by ethical or theoretical principles) in their foreign policy strategies. These policies have generated tremendous instability that has finally erupted into appalling violence and chaos. The film focusses on the situation of Western Sahara, the last African colony according to the United Nations and a region on the brink of war.

The film is a personal journey in which Javier Bardem leads the audience through the tortuous path of world diplomacy and the terrible reality of an abandoned people, in a quest to understand how this could happen and how another war in Africa might be prevented.

Talk: Álvaro Longoria (director) / Mohamed Ali Ali Salem (writer)
