Costa, a cynical film producer, and Sebastian, a young and idealistic filmmaker, have joined hands on an ambitious project to be shot in Bolivia. The film is to narrate the arrival of the Spanish to America, highlighting the brutality of their undertaking and the courage of the Church members who used words to fight swords and chains. What Costa and Sebastian don’t realise is that in Bolivia, the chosen location for their cinematic Santo Domingo, an unexpected challenge is about to set their plans reeling. The outbreak of the “water war” (April 2000) soon opens cracks in the convictions of one and the indifference of the other, forcing them to take emotional journeys in different directions.

Winner of 3 Goyas. Penultimate film by Iciar Bollain, director of Hi, Are You Alone? (1995), Flowers from Another World (1999), Take My Eyes (2003), Mataharis (2007) and Kathmandu, a Mirror in the Sky (2011).
