The latest film from the Serbian director Goran Paskaljević, When Day Breaks, will open the 11th San Sebastian Human Rights Film Festival on April 19th at the Victoria Eugenia Theatre.
This is the second time that a film by Paskaljević has opened the Festival. The last time was in 2010 with Honeymoons (2009), as part of an event at which he received the Festival Award for his professional and personal work in favour of human rights.
One of the most important European film authors in the last three decades, the Serbian director has made more than 30 documentaries and 15 feature films –including Someone Else's America (1995), Cabaret Balkan (1998) and The Optimists (2006)– which have participated in different events and have won prizes the world over. Highly devoted in his work to the reality of the world he lives in, Paskaljević looks at today's society, war, immigration, racism... subjects that can be found all through his filmography.
