China is the first country in the world to classify "internet addiction" as a clinical disorder. Web Junkie delves into a Beijing treatment centre for children between the ages of 13 and 18 years, where a group of health professionals headed by Professor Tao Ran applies ground-breaking treatment. The documentary explores the cases of three adolescents from the day they arrive at the treatment centre until they leave it, 'de-programmed', three months later. Military-inspired physical training, emotional meetings with their fathers and mothers, theory classes, brain studies and myriad treatments are used to control this new 21st century addiction.
