A selection of short films made by young people in 5 European countries (Italy, Spain, France, the United Kingdom and Germany). Different takes on a complex phenomenon: hatred and other forms of intolerance.
In the European Union, recent times have seen a rise in physical or verbal attacks on minority groups. The Internet and social media provide a fertile ground for the fast and massive expansion of hate messages which are taking strong hold in the social construct. In this context, the European project REACT (financed by the European Union Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme) seeks ways to counteract the discourses of hatred and the many forms of intolerance. The idea is to promote an improvement in the tools available to education professionals and groups of young people so that they may generate their own, different and alternative discourses and narratives. In recent months work has been underway with young people from 5 European countries. SOS Racism Gipuzkoa, the University of Barcelona and the University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia are members of the project in the Spanish territory.
The objective has been to strengthen their capacities by creating and making audio visual productions. The final result is this selection of short films made in each country which are and represent different, alternative and young stances against the discourses of hatred, working on counter-narrative as a response.
