For centuries, the residents of Siculiana, a small Sicilian town, have worshipped the figure of a black Jesus that they carry through the streets in a procession every 3rd May. Siculiana has a hotel that now offers shelter to refugees and has taken in as many as 1000 residents, almost a third of its population. The centre has always been a subject of discrepancy among the locals. This year, Edward, a young man from Ghana living in the town, asks to be one of the crucifix bearers in the procession. His request divides the town inhabitants, who must ask themselves the reason for their fear and their prejudice against "the others" and also about their own identity, starting with the icon of their faith: a black Jesus.
