In the early 90s, Gaby lives happily in Bujumbura, the capital of Burundi, with his family: his younger sister Ana, his father, Michel, a French businessman, and his mother, Yvonne, a native of Rwanda. Gaby leads a carefree life, getting up to mischief with his classmates and enjoying life in his "small country". Until one day, following months of political tension between the two main ethnic groups, the Hutus and the Tutsis, civil war breaks out in Burundi and its neighbouring Rwanda. Adaptation of the bestseller of the same name by Gaël Faye.
