Bilbao, 1969. He is currently President of the NGO Salvamento Marítimo Humanitario (SMH) providing humanitarian maritime rescue. He worked for 7 years as a Red Cross volunteer at the Arriluze base, in Bilbao. He is a Higher Technician in Maritime Transport. Towards the end of 2015, and having watched news of the mass arrival of people fleeing from places of conflict in precarious vessels, Mijangos, together with another group of people, decided to found SMH, the NGO, to provide assistance in these arrivals. In 2017 he participated in the Maydayterraneo project together with volunteers from other NGOs on board the Lifeline, a former research vessel with which they carried out 5 rescue missions in the Central Mediterranean. He has participated in 2 missions as first officer and head of mission on board the Aita Mari.
