27,000 photos of civilians arrested and tortured to death were stolen from the secret archives of the Syrian regime by a soldier codenamed Caesar. They were made public in 2014. But since then, international justice has proved powerless to bring the Syrian Government to trial. With the case having apparently sunk into oblivion, relatives of the victims, and activists including Caesar himself, and the Spanish lawyer Almudena Bernabeu, set out in pursuit of truth and justice at various courts all around Europe. After five years of investigation and struggle, they manage for the first time to put senior officials of the Syrian death machine in the dock.
