Donostia Kultura presents the exhibition The Three Borders, curated by the journalist José Naranjo and the photographer Juan Luis Rod, the central theme of which is the conflict in Western Sahara. This is a conflict which is often overlooked by the media, but nonetheless generates huge suffering in Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger. The show uses photographs and explanatory texts to depict the effects of violence here, which has led to thousands of deaths and some five million displaced persons and refugees.

This exhibition focuses on the regions closest to the Three Borders zone, where the frontiers of all three countries meet. The jihadist insurgency broke out in Mali in 2012, but soon spread to Burkina Faso and Niger, on the back of poverty and the weakness of governments in the region.
