The 23rd San Sebastian Human Rights Festival, organised by the Human Rights area of the City Council and Donostia Kultura, took place between 23 and 30 April, and proved a huge success with the public.

The film Sucia (Spain, 2025), directed by Bàrbara Mestanza and Marc Pujolar, claimed the Audience Award for Best Feature Film at the 23rd San Sebastian Human Rights Film Festival, which draws to a close tonight at the Victoria Eugenia Theatre.

The filmmaker Imanol Uribe will receive this year the 23rd San Sebastian Human Rights Film Festival Award. The prize ceremony will be at the Victoria Eugenia Theater on Thursday 30 at 20:00, at the Closing Night of the Festival.

The exhibition 22nd edition of Art and Human Rights by children and youths, from the program of the 23rd Human Rights Film Festival, will be open between April 23rd and 30th at the Victoria Eugenia Theatre (Okendo square).

Donostia Kultura presents the exhibition The Three Borders, curated by the journalist José Naranjo and the photographer Juan Luis Rod, the central theme of which is the conflict in Western Sahara.

The history of Palestine, migrations and the situation of refugees in different parts of the world, child health, the role of women in religions, child soldiers in Africa, the power of social mobilisations, and precarious conditions in the textile industry will be among the topics covered by the festival's films and discussions.

The immersive exhibition Hope by Force, from the program of the 23rd Human Rights Film Festival, will be open between April 15th and 30th at the Victoria Eugenia Theatre (entrance through Reina Regente).

The film Palestine 36 (2025), by Palestinian director Annemarie Jacir, winner of the 2019 Festival Award, will have the honour on 23 April at the Victoria Eugenia Theatre of opening the 23^rd San Sebastian Human Rights Film Festival, organised by the City Council Human Rights Area and Donostia Kultura.

The 23rd San Sebastian Human Rights Film Festival will take place between 23 and 30 April at the Victoria Eugenia, the main setting for the event, and the Teatro Principal, as well as other venues around the city. This year Tabakalera will again be featuring the Film and Memory series, made up of three films analysing the power of images and their importance in recounting History: Mes fantômes arméniens , La noche está marchándose ya and Redlight to Limelight.

As every year, the festival will be addressing a range of topics and stories, including among many others the role of women in religion, the climate emergency in Bangladesh as an example of what is happening in many other regions of the world, the feminisation of precarious working conditions in the textile industry, in this case in Eastern Europe.
