The San Sebastian Human Rights Film Festival and Médicos del Mundo Spain have created a special accolade as part of the 30th Luis Valtueña International Humanitarian Photography Award, to choose the photograph that will serve as the official poster for the 24th Human Rights Film Festival, to be held between 9 and 16 April 2027.

The Festival will award a €1,500 prize to just one photograph from one of the four winning series in the Luis Valtueña Award, to become the image for the festival's 2027 edition. The decision will be taken by the Luis Valtueña Award judging panel and representatives of the Human Rights Film Festival.

Intended to recognise and showcase works of documentary photography and photojournalism exposing inequalities, human rights violations, situations of injustice and responses helping to combat them, the award pays tribute to Luis Valtueña and another three Médicos del Mundo workers murdered in Rwanda (1997) and in Bosnia (1995) while tending to the civilian victims of armed conflict. The award process aims to promote a photographic perspective committed to human dignity, the defence of rights and social transformation in order to help eradicate the worst disease of all: injustice.

Those wishing to enter the competition must submit a series of between 5 and 10 photographic images, between the dates 20 July and 11 October via the Picter platform (app.picter.com).
