Aamer Anwar

Aamer Anwar is one of the UK’S leading human rights lawyers and described as a champion for the voiceless. In 2021 he successfully negotiated with the police, the release of two immigration detainees in Kenmure Street, Glasgow following a huge street protest to stop their deportation. Aamer is also well known for the defence of Catalan politician Clara Ponsatí, who Spain tried to extradite over the independence referendum. Since 2015 he has acted for the family of the death in police custody of Sheku Bayoh, called Scotland’s George Floyd.
