Pilar Bardem

The Human Rights Film Festival will for the first time bestow the award carrying her name upon the actress Pilar Bardem in recognition of her work in defence of human rights, democracy and peace, and her support and activity in favour of disadvantaged causes and groups of people. Pilar Bardem has collaborated in different initiatives, including the Platform of Women Artists against Gender Violence, Culture against War, the Palestine Now platform for fair peace in the Near East and the State Coordinator of Friendly Associations with the Saharaui People.

Born in Seville in 1939, Pilar Bardem is doubtlessly one of the most important actresses in the Spanish cinema of recent decades. Winner of a Goya for Best Supporting Actress for Nadie hablará de nosotras cuando hayamos muerto (Agustín Díaz Yanes, 1995), she has also worked with some of recent Spanish cinema’s most important directors, including Fernando Fernán-Gómez (El mundo sigue, 1965), Gonzalo Suárez (La Regenta, 1974), her brother Juan Antonio (El poder del deseo, 1975), Bigas Luna (Las edades de Lulú, 1990), Enrique Urbizu (Todo por la pasta, 1991), Julio Medem (Vacas, 1992), Pedro Almodóvar (Carne trémula, 1997) or José Luis García Sánchez (María querida, 2004).
