Animal Tales of Christmas Magic, Tales from the Magic Garden and Pheasant Island are the feature films available to schools to discuss human rights topics. The screenings will take place at the Teatro Principal from 20 to 29 April, at 10:00 a.m.

As in previous years, the films will come with teaching guides to be used in the classroom. The aim is to raise awareness of human rights among children and young people, both before and after they watch the films. In the case of Pheasant Island, the film's director Asier Urbieta will be taking part in a discussion with the young people attending.

Films:

  • Animal Tales of Christmas Magic (Le Grand Noël des animaux, 2024) (72 min) Basque

Age: 4-6 years
Synopsis: This film brings together five separate stories featuring animals that experience startling journeys around the world: from the snowy north to poetic Japan, along with magical woodlands and enchanting villages. Directed by six filmmakers from different countries, the movie celebrates friendship, generosity and respect for diversity, through sensitive and evocative animation.

  • Tales from the Magic Garden (Pohádky po babicce, 2025) (82 min) Basque

Age: 7-9 years
Synopsis: The three siblings Tom, Suzanne and Derek are spending their first weekend alone with their Grandpa who has become withdrawn since their grandma died. It is a difficult time for them all. But then Suzanne steps into the role of storyteller, just like grandma used to do, and the house fills with magical tales of adventure, humour and fantasy. It is a cherished family tradition that everyone adds their own ingredient to the stories, and this helps them all to rediscover the healing power of storytelling. As joy and laughter return to the house, the children and their grandpa forge a deeper connection, finding solace and strength in their shared memories.

  • Pheasant Island (Faisaien Irla, 2025) (98 min) Basque, French / Subtitles: Spanish

It emerges in the middle of the Bidasoa River, a natural border that separates both countries. Laida and Sambou, a local couple, are walking in front of the island. Suddenly they see two people swimming across the river trying to reach the other side. Days later a corpse appears during the exchange of sovereignty of the island. Who takes charge?
