Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, Black Africa. We have already made up our minds about this human community. The media model it exclusively on its problems. The only words used to define the continent give us the shivers: violence, tribalism, war, hunger, brutal emigration, AIDS.
Africa, however, is moving increasingly closer. People who seemed exotic and distant only a few years ago nowadays share our houses, work and leisure pursuits. Nevertheless, despite growing ever closer, they remain a mystery to us.
Beyond the reality of suffering Africa, heavily laden with problems, there is an unknown continent with cultural wealth and human values that Westerners have maybe lost over time. It is imperative to build bridges between us and them so that we can benefit from their values and them from ours.
At the end of the day we are the same family with common ancestors.
